I'm trying to install Norton Internet Security 2006 on Windows 8.1, but it gives the error "This program has compatibility issues." and will not install. The "Get help online" option does nothing useful, of course, and other searches have so far been unfruitful.
What's strange is that it was installed before, but I reformatted, and now it won't work. Maybe it's because it was installed prior to 2016, but now that it's over 10 years old they force an upgrade?
I've tried running it in compatibility mode fro Windows 7 and Windows XP (Service pack 3) but had the same issue. The compatibility troubleshooter suggested the latter.
Any ideas to get this to work? It's on someone else's computer, and they only use Norton (not my preference) but they don't want to buy an upgrade.
