i know this doesn't help for anyone who just went out and bought anti virus after their computer has been up for a while (long enough for a reformat to be out of the question) but here is what i've found: first off norton anti virus is a VERY good program and updated very frequently, their products have compatibility issues and errors just like every other software programmed *thing* out there, but they give updates faster than most software companies and i like that
. Anyway, i have found that the stupid red x and the innability to activate antivirus seems to come when you install it on a system which has had other stuff installed on it first. Bar non, wether its installing on fat 32 or ntfs, it doesn't like being installed over other programs (haven't tracked down which one it doesn't like but it must be something that is important to getting a computer running like video drivers or something. I have found that the only way to fix this problem is to install anti virus as the first program you install after you install windows whatever, when i do this, i've never had any problems with it, when i don't, its a 30/70% chance that it won't work...
