How can I open the case of my Toshiba Satellite 1805-S177 to get at
the power connector without breaking things ?

Go to the manufacturer's website and search for a service manual. I was able
to find one for an HP laptop. If you do find one, it will probably be a long
document (mine was about 200 pages), so hopefully you are on broadband.
