I am new to working with computers and need some advice.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW235F that came with win7 home installed-no installation disk but I do have a 'boot copy' that bestbuy made for me and the product key. Microsoft is no help.
I bought a Kingston Hperx 120GB 2.5" SATA Rev. 3.0 (6Gb/s) SSD and would like to install
ONLY Win7 on it.
I realize this topic has been covered, but it seems the directions are not always clear and are a bit conflicting. Would some nice person please take the time to help a girl out?

Yeah, no problem. So, of course, install the SSD in the place of the HDD. Then turn the computer on, and tap F11 until the boot screen comes up. At that point, you could go ahead and open the CD drive and put the first boot disc in. Then, go to BOOT options and set the CD drive as the first boot device. Then save changes and restart. At that point you should see some Windows icon come up and it should say something about 'loading setup files.' From what you're saying, it sounds like you have an OS installation disc, as opposed to a repair disc or something else. But yeah, it's the same as installing Win7 for the first time.

Hope that makes sense.

Welcome to Tom's!

It should be pretty simple. Swap out the HDD for the SSD (if you need help on that, no prob, but don't want to oversimplify if you don't), then turn your computer on and pop out the CD/DVD drive. Throw your disc in. Restart with CD as boot mode (tap F11 as your restart the machine, go into BIOS and switch the boot device order to have the optical drive first), and that should be it.

Also, keep your hard drive that you pull out safe, if anything goes wrong with the disc or anything, you can throw it back in until you get any issues worked out, should there be any.

Keep in mind, you're starting completely from scratch, but you can always put your old HDD in an external case and get your docs from it later.

EDIT: maybe I read your question wrong, not sure what you meant with the emphasis on "ONLY Win7"...but isn't a dual hdd bay laptop, is it?

Hi,
thank you so much for your help and fast reply-Wow!
To answer your question, I want to install Windows 7 only-no other programs-like a brand new computer and go from there.
I am making a clone right now and have already backed up to an external HDD.
So, what I need to do is put the boot disc in, press f11 and make sure it boots from the optical device-what happens after that?
I have two boot discs and they are both necessary I am told. Will I be prompted to pop the 2nd one in at some point?
Also, is this the same thing as installing Windows 7? I read somewhere that installation disc and boot disc were different.
Thanks again!
