Foreign language teacher, new computer this year. No external number pad on the laptop. How do I access the num lock feature to use alt codes to get foreign characters?
You can just use the numbers above the letter part as they have the same function as a number pad. Also if your not comfortable using those numbers located above the keyboard you can also plug in an external number pad.

I'm assuming you mean the function numbers (0 with M, 1 with J, etc). This doesn't allow the control-alt-number series which gives the accents. I have also tried the numbers above all letters. The reason for asking about this solution was to avoid plugging in another keyboard/number pad. Thanks for your reply, though--you are the only one to attempt an answer! I've been using an add-on for my Google Docs called Easy Accents. While this is great for that, it doesn't help in other programs where I'd like to use accents. (like right now, in this...)
