live in a bad neighborhood
stop at a gas station because you are running low
place gets robed
get gun pointed at head and all money taken

than come back and tell us how concealed weapons are a bad thing. keep in mind, bad guys dont care at all if the law says don't do it, should non criminals be restricted because "law" is for their protection?

the above story is why an uncle now has a permit for conceal carry.

Well, we now have aluminum wallets to protect our credit cards from RFID scanners. Next someone will offer a larger version to house your gun.

And if you order with your credit card you get a 2nd one free; just pay additional processing 🙂

You police can do all the research if you want but did you even think to check if it's lethal over time? We already know that excessive x-rays cause cancer and other problems so I'd like an in-depth test for at least a couple years before anyone even considers using these. Even then I'd hate to have police just scanning anyone but it would be a good solution to patting anyone down or a strip search in such situations.

Can't say I want it to have a much higher range than 3-4 feet. At most I'd say 9-10 feet is where I'd like it, any more and I would start getting suspicious of the intended uses of this device. Being able to scan someone from almost 10 feet away would decrease the risk to the police officer and be better for the suspect's privacy than a strip search.

This scanner has potential for great use but even greater potential for misuse. I think I can speak for everyone here at Tom's and most other people that the misuse scenario is not one we'd be happy to see.

What rights? From this side of the pond U.S. politics and public opinion seem far out!

Millionaire tax unpopular in the general public even though most will never get close …

Public health bill unpopular because it limits “freedom of citizens”, well look around you (or on TV) and see how many decent people do not have freedom because of medical bills!

And the way that this is portrayed it seems like a tool for the police to use in situations that may escalate because of poor attitudes. So it could make the life of police officers that much the safer (and thus them less likely to react with excessive force!)

This was a brief rant but it seems like “freedom of everything” is at stake every time someone says anything these days … Get real!

if someone scans you and you have a weapon, you can react in a calm manner and there will be no incident. there is no reason to conceal your weapon anyway, i carry mine on my hip and there is no issue, and many cops of different sectors have seen and not mentioned it at all.

scanning for a weapon in a bust or stopping a possible criminal running during a fight or robbery is very helpful.

cancer is a possibility in 100 other things that are much higher dosage than this portable unit. when did everyone become a scientist on the web from digital hearsay?

I have to strongly disagree. The entire point is element of surprise. If I am at a gas station, supermarket, etc., the last thing I want an attacker to know is that I have a gun so they won't be zeroed-in on it to try and take it from me before even being attacked. A weapon in plain view is one that is much more likely to be tried to be used against the defender than if it were not known to exist in the first place. Let's not also forget that many people get nervous when they see a gun in plain view on a non-law-enforcement person. This goes for general public AND law enforcement, you automatically gain a watchful eye on you whether you feel it or not.

"...at the airport (a place we expect to be searched and scanned)..." Umm excuse me? I don't expect or feel it is normal to get molested and ran through naked x-ray machines at all.
This is bull, just another tactic NYC is using, which is notoriously known for having crazy legitimate and legal anti-gun law orgy; while having one of the $hittiest rates of murder by guns (you know, because crooks know you can't have a concealed weapon so they have nothing to fear).

Good way to get shot in NYC... every state and even cities/counties laws can be different. There is no open carry (that is on your hip mall-cowboy). And good luck getting a legal concealed permit in NYC they rather die then hand those out.

Some people carry concealed weapons to uphold their lawful rights to defend themselves.

Let's say I'm driving my family across say, Arizona. This is a state that like many others, has a huge problem with illegal immigration and crime, including drug and arms trafficking. The crime is so rife there are signs telling you not to stop, not to talk to strangers and not be complacent with your family's welfare.

So, we stay at a farm we've been invited to. Suddenly, multiple assailants turn up all of unknown origin, all carrying guns.

What do you do? Oh wait, Obama's taken your weapon from you. So what do you do? Appease them? Stay silent whilst they rape and murder? No chance. You give them everything until they are lying in pieces, in their own blood.

This isn't a hypothetical scenario. It's happening in Mexico, it's happening here, on our own soil. In some neighborhoods people are concealing weapons to protect themselves. Taking weapons of everyone simply creates the scenario in places like the UK, where the crims still carry the weapons and still use them to effect agains unarmed civilians. At least in the US, the pond-life may know that the person they hold a weapon to could have one of their own.

I don't think that carrying a concealed weapon doesn't make you a criminal. I think it's a sign of the times we live in and at the end of the day I'd rather have a weapon and not use it, than have no weapon and no chance of survival. Some nut goes crazy in a public place? I doubt many people would complain about the person rightfully putting a bullet the criminal's skull..

Yeah, you will then protect your family and be the hero.
If you have 'serious' military combat training, and enough ammo and not some sissy 9mm semi, you may have a point. But average Joe blow will be dead long before he has figured out in all the excitement how to turn of the safety.

Anyone with half a brain should see that the powers-that-be are setting the stage for a huge beatdown of the general population and putting in measures to eliminate any retailation from citizens once they discover that they have been caroled while they were asleep.
Also, be aware that for every 10 people on this and other sites, 4-5 of the 10 are either employed by local corrupt police, corrupt FBI, corrupt NSA/CIA. This is true in most cases, except for Facebook where the level of agencies spying on us citizens would be higher at around 5-6 out of 10.
