Any other person who isn't a cop wouln't be successful. Abuse of power. It is not illegal to produce parodies of people... Unless cops got the 1st out too. 1.2million!#$#@?????? WTF. 1.8million was bad enough for the music industry, and that was actually a crime. BUT 1.2 million for exercising your 1st??? He makes cops look bad. OH better off, lets get him for false imprisonment for arresting someone over BUBBLES.

[citation][nom]socalboomer[/nom]Ummm - didn't realize Canada had a Bill of Rights. . .[/citation]

They used too, until the federal government passed the charter (Charter of Rights and Freedoms) in 1982.

But as for my comment, it was humorous in nature. If I have to explain why, I guess I fail. lol

Canada. Gotta love it. Rights? HAH!!!!

Anywho, the guy was a complete a$$hole. He treated that girl with such disrespect and then crys like a little girl that people called him out.

Guess the US isn't the only place for frivolous lawsuits these days.

[citation][nom]albion000[/nom]Even if it were the US, the First Amendment only applies to *government* restriction of speech, smarties. This would have nothing, nothing, NOTHING to do with the First Amendment.[/citation]

Police officers aren't governmental representatives? Considering that they enforce their state and/or local laws and are usually sworn to uphold the Constitution as a condition of their employment, how would this not apply? Are they sworn to protect us from the government or do they swear to uphold their own Constitutional rights? How are the police NOT the government?

Lol. Stupid police officer, thinking that basic rights don't apply to those who are against him. This is proof that idiocy is hardly monopolized by the USA.

The basic concept of Defamation is that it has to be unfair at the very least. Given the officer's actions, I don't think the (comparatively moderated) attacks could be considered "unfair."

And mind you, this is going by the (much more plaintiff-friendly) defamation law they have in Canada, which is almost a mockery on the rights of free speech. In the USA, the First Amendment (As shown in New York Times v. Sullivan) ensures that not only does the purported defamation have to be untrue, the teller has to KNOW it's untrue. And I don't think that US law would allow a US citizen (who is NOT a Canadian citizen as well) to be tried under foreign law that would violate their US Constitutional rights.

So I guess it sucks to be you, Officer Bubbles. And you should be ashamed of yourself as well: you tarnish and defame the reputation of police officers as a profession.

Can the commenters counter-sue? If no, than the officer should not be able to do anything about this unless he sues as a private person making the powers equal.

"Adam Josephs, a constable with Toronto Police Department's 52 Division, "

Learn to read please.

While I'm sure the original commenter that said "only in America..." was (incorrectly) referring to the USA, America is rather vague and technically covers 2 entire continents.

OMG!!!!! :O

I can just imagine what would of happened if a bird or worse.... if a goose crapped on his head. He'd probably sue God for assault.

The girl he was threatening is my best friend, and this same officer arrested me while i was drawing peace signs on the sidewalk in sidewalk chalk...and those cartoons depicted his arrogance and his tendency for cruel derogatory behaviour perfectly.

This is why people should be allowed to film police doing their jobs. So they can be held accountable for being douchebags.

OK, ever think about this. You are the cop, someone is blowing bubbles in your face. Do you know what is in it, NO; not unless you have a Star Trek Tricorder handy. You ask them to stop or they can be arrested and charged with assault. They do not stop, so guess what you get to wear a nice pair of chrome bracelets........ALL PEOPLE need to be responsible for their actions......Everyone in this day and age seems to think that they can do whatever they want without consequences. WAKE UP.

Holy shit, when did Canada get a first amendment? Or a Constitution of the 'UNITED STATES' at all, for that matter?

Dipshits...

You wake up. This was obviously misconduct on the officer's part since the "offender" had all charges dropped.

Toronto is in America! Canada is part of America. America is not a country! It is a region of the world.
