Old applications for windows

i want to migrate an old application from older t5o new environment. please suggest me the appropriate applications suitable for my work

What older application are you referring to? What kind of work do you do? What is the new environment (Windows 7, Windows 8, etc.)?

new environment can be windows 7 and 8 and or even windows XP too. Here old application means any application that is designed on old platforms like windows NT , Mac, Unix, Linux. I , thus want that application to be migrated to newer platforms.Please suggest or guide me . My main agenda is to develop new method for long term preservation . Existing methods are migration , emulation and Universal Virtual Computer. Either taking their features ,i have to propose new method.
