I have an OLD Sony VAIO Laptop that is still working and which was very high-end when I bought it (hold your breath) 8 years back, with a Fingerprint scanner and Vista (I know, D-uh), and it is small and dinky at 8.5 inches. It is still working but the battery is long gone and was no longer available anywhere, so it needs to be plugged in when in use. What are the chances that I get something for exchanging it ? Like I said, it works, but it stutters and wheezes occasionally, like any oldie, I guess. They can still use many of the parts and features, like the fingerprint scanner, which many new laptops today do not have. Any comments/suggestions ?

Depending on the condition and specs, I would guess that it is worth $10-$50. You probably won't be able to get any credit for exchanging it. Since it's a pretty rare model with a unique form factor, you may be able to find a buyer who would pay significantly more.
I think your best option would be to pass it on to a family member or friend who could use it.
