So, is it true I can't convert my subscription from my old SS to a newer network
capable model?

They never allowed transfers from Showstoppers, only Replays. I called
just the other day and the csr said they no longer transfer from older
Replays either.

OK, this is something I do know about. I had a Panasonic Showstopper
that became very ill. So, I bought a refurbished 5080 from the ReplayTV
web site. I then called the Activation Technical Support line and
requested that the dead Showstopper life-time subscription be
transferred to my "new" 5080. It was done while I was on the phone and
within 20 minutes I was able to update my "new" 5080 and it showed as
being a life-time subscription. I did this about 8 months ago. Since
then, I have read some reports of people failing to get their
subscriptions transferred.

One possible difference is that the technical support person was able
to verifiy that my old Showstopper had been doing its call-in updates
regularly for years. Then, for three weeks, no updates.

I sold the old Showstopper as spare parts to Mikeboy, who sells parts
and does service for ReplayTVs.

Bye.
