One document linked in several folders

We have several binders (from 40 pages to 350 pages each). Each is set up in it's own folder and has sub-folders with several documents. Some of these documents are the same in two or more binders. Is there a way to make one version of a document an "original" or "master" and link this to the sub-folders? We find that we don't always remember how many places a document is used and update each one.

Keep master copy, and then copy shortcuts to it in the subfolders. I don't know about automated utility which can do that, but you can use your favorite search engine for that.

You can use symlinks if your OS supports them.
