One of the surround speakers works on some days only and not on other days.

Some days the left outer surround speaker does not work on my PIONEER VSX-LX70 AMP.and some days it works,On days when not working,I have tried all the usual tricks to rectify it like switch speakers,check the cable/wire connections,re-set the Amp to factory default,etc but still no luck.The offending speaker makes a couple of clicking noises each time I change channels on the Virgin Tivo cable TV box.It will either work on the day or it wont.Any idea what is causing this?

Next time it happens run the speaker level setup on the receiver to see if you get noise on the non working speaker.
If you do then the problem may be the output of your cable box. Try a different source.
If not then the problem is in the receiver. Bad solder or circuit board traces. Intermittent problems with the surround processor chip might cause this too. Too bad it is out of warranty. Might be an expensive fix if the processor is bad.
