operating system wasnt found

pc wont boot past message saying operating system wasnt found.Try disconnect any drives that dont contain an operating system or press ctrl alt del to restart.I do not have a backup or windows disk.How ever i am stil able to get in bios setup.Is there anyway for me to fix this problem.I do have access to another pc and can download a copy of windows onto usb if this is of any help

Actually it could be a lot of things, can you boot to BIOS? If so ensure the BIOS has your OS drive listed as the primary boot device. MBR may be damaged, might be from virus or malware, see if you can get an OS disk for your OS and boot to it and try a repair

If this is a new laptop it is possible that you bought it without an operating system and you will need to buy one.
If it is not a new laptop then have a look and see if you can find a serial number for activating your operating system then google your operating system name followed by USB boot download.
Depending on the OS you will need at least a 4GB USB/CD to install the OS(Windows).
If you cannot find your operating system serial number you may need to buy a new one.
