I don't even use Google for search so let alone anything else they offer, neither I use facecook, so I don't really see myself wasting my precious time and getting bothered about what Google+ can or can't do.

Most of Tom's reasons don't have to do with Google Plus they have to do with other Google products. Well, I use all of the other products Tom mentioned but am totally underwhelmed by Google Plus. Facebook beat MySpace because it had more to offer. Not less. Some of it I could not care less about (Zynga games come to mind) but still, lots going on. Most of my male tech friends who adopted Google plus early on have stopped posting on it. Most of my female friends thought it was a bore from the start. That's not a promising beginning. It will have to change a lot to take over Facebook's world.

I could have used Circles several years ago... before Facebook ruined two of my relationships =/

Google doesn’t need to be as concerned about you “liking” a page (so they know your preferences and can target better advertisements), because it can see your search and browsing history; that makes the company far more intelligent about your behavior and interests.

This here is exactly why I do not want to use Google+. This is the most intrusive move yet by any tech company anywhere!

However, Facebook have been going out of their way to annoy and alienate their user-base for years. The reason everyone went ape when G+ launched wasn't so much that they were genuinely excited about the service - rather, they can see the light at the end of the tunnel - they can finally get rid of facebook whilst retaining the useful functionality of social networking in the knowledge that they were moving to something that their friends were also likely to use.

I hate facebook with a passion, I really wish google+ was run by someone other than google - if it had been then I would be there already.

But all it takes is for FB to keep pushing me. One more toe out of line Zuckerberg and I'm gone!

I find it interesting how Google is apparently considered a "friendly" company in the US.
In Germany (and some other European countries) Google is seen much more critically - maybe concerns about privacy and the protection of it play a bigger roll on this side of the pond. (at least it seems like it, considering the everlasting fight about handing over flight passengers' data)
It goes so far as to Google being called "the (data) kraken" due to it supposedly gathering information about each and everyone of us, taking fotos of houses etc.
While the articles may be right for the US I highly doubt that Google+ will catch on this fast in most parts of Europe...

@thae:

Good point. Most Americans are oblivious to things that you mention unless somebody holds their hand and shows it to their face.

The belligerence and arrogance of Google is astonishing, they have taken a page from that scourge of a site called fb.

The only reason why facebook became more popular than My Space was because the corporate borg media embraced it and not My Space which was around years earlier, fb really didn't do anything better than My Space. Mr Suckerberg just has connections with the elite.

Does FBI mean Federal Bureau of Investigation or Facebook, Inc. Are those two two separate entities or they are the same branch of CIA?

we just had a book published a few months ago about how google is watching everything you do online and now you want to tell them more? Hey why not just go right ahead and install a google camera harness on your back so they can watch you 24/7? then you can install a second camera that faces away from you so they can see what you see all the time... I mean youre basically doing that when you use their service now just online instead of in person. They know everything youve searched for, every email youve sent through gmail, and where youve gone on google maps, and now they'll know every single detail about your day... every day... till you stop using their services... why? because THEY NEVER DELETE ANYTHING.... Sleep tight now children.

Who wrote this....It looks like google owns the whole net....why was orkut and other bunch of goodies from Google a failure. Everyone knows that Orkut lost the battle against Facebook. Why was it so. One who owns everything lost the battle. Very funny.

Read about what they collect with your phones, numbers etc, https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/preview/
hate Google I am not signing into it again after reading the TOS and Privacy statements. I don't want to be in a circle and be tracked. I just want to relax and use the web or services that I do like, that's it. Did they take out the part that used to be in the Chrome TOS and Privacy where they say they have access to any content on your computer if you use them including your phone callls? What Skype? Voip? Chat etc? I'm too tired to look it up, do they own BIng and Yahoo and other searches also? I hope not

And they say Apple is controlling or restrictive, nothing like this https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/preview/

[citation][nom]enforcer22[/nom]... Pick up a phone stop being so impersonal.[/citation]

People used to say "Put down the phone. Stop being so impersonal...go get a beer or visit them at their house".

That said, it's way easier to keep tabs on a big family who is active on facebook than it is to call every person every day...especially if you want to share pictures of the kids, etc...fb or G+ make this way easier, by linking. Not...hey...what's your address again? I'll mail you some photos.
