Hi guys,

I need a new portable laptop so it needs to be 14" or less ideally, was looking at this ultrabook http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_...1_1362368.html

I will be using it for moderate use of photoshop, illustrator some ms office and some web browsing and maybe some light gaming.

Now I know a small screen is not ideal for graphical work but the laptop needs to be portable and reasonably powerful.

My current laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with 2gb Ram and an intel t2310 1.46ghz dual core processor, and it handles my everyday tasks pretty well.

Would this ultrabook be a big upgrade on my current laptop?

In general, there should be about a 25% increase in raw CPU performance if the i5-3317U were to just run at it's standard 1.7GHz speed. Turbo Boost allows the CPU to speed up to 2.8GHz if one core is being used and probably about 2.5GHz if both cores are being used. That's assuming the CPU is not running very hot.

If your Toshiba Satellite had something like an Intel GMA 4500m, then you will find that the Intel HD 4000 graphics core far exceeds the GMA 4500m's performance; probably about 4x more powerful.

Since the Acer is more powerful than your current laptop I see no reason why it would not keep up with your daily tasks. The only complaint you might have would be the 13.3" if you are currently using a large screen laptop.

I would actually consider the following Acer Aspire S3-391 Ultrabook for £449.97. The difference of £95 is the slightly slower CPU. It has an i5-3317U which is clocked at 1.7GHz / 2.4GHz (Turbo Boost) vs the i5-3337U which is clocked at 1.8GHz / 2.4GHz (Turbo Boost).
