I have an optical drive from a 2005 shuttle xpc computer. The model is cr40 (b). It is a really good disc drive and i want to use it in my new computer, however the website claims it will only work on the windows os's up to xp. I want to use it in a dual boot windows 7 and os x hackintosh. I don't really need it for day to day use, but I do need it to install both of these operating systems. Are there compatible drivers out there, or will it not work? Just trying to save 20 bucks.
Thanks in advance.

I don't see why a drive would not work in any OS. Try it and see. It should not need any drivers, but who knows what type of controller board they used.

If you think about it, the drive is from 2005, why would they list an operating system as being supported that was not only not out then, but was probably not even in development for long. It's like wondering why Lincoln did not thank Hawaii for supporting him in the elections.

Easier to try than to ask, won't hurt the computer any.
