I have an older VPI HW-19 Mk3 which picks up more than a bit of noise
from the motor. My Grado cartridge doesn't help, picking up easily
audible hum as the arm tracks to the center.
I've long considered a SAMA with a long belt, to move the motor away
from the headshell. This week I came across a UK manufacturer that
sells a high performance DC motor and speed controller. While (st)
designed for the Linn, it is said to work well on the HW-19. They even
have a choice of motors and controllers which, of cours, rapidly
escelate well beyond the SAMA in price.
I've seen a few reviews on-line from unknown sources extolling this
kits virtues, but always in comparison to the Linn.
Has anyone ever tried one of these, especially on a VPI? I'd LOVE to
know how it compares to the SAMA!!!! Has there been a worthy review in
the press of this companies products and quality?
Thanks,
Philip
