PA and TN in the same region?

One of the chores this weekend is visiting a verizon store near mom to see
if they can put a PA area code on my plan. I know I can have phones in both
eastern TN codes and the two from western VA on one bill (and they can be
assigned at my local store). They can't assign PA numbers but didn't know if
I could get one on one of my accounts in PA. Anyone know?

Yeah, I know, with free long distance and AC, it really doesn't matter,
especially since no one calls her on it, but I thought it might be easier
for her to remember the number if it's in her area code. If not, I'll give
her a choice - keep her old prepay phone for at least a few more months,
pays $40 for her own plan, or gets a new phone in a TN (or VA) area code.
(I'll be nice and let her pick the area code she wants. <g>)

Usually...At least with family share.. Had a kid go off to college and they
changed his number to one local to the area he was going to school in (so
his friends could call him local, and he could order pizza <--- they don't
allow out of state callback phone numbers for many local pizza deliveries,
and college = pizza :)...

Don't know if that would work for a mom though.... do moms order pizza?
(actually, if you get a number local for her, her friends can call her
free).

I just wonder if that is one of those different region things, they can't
assign numbers for other regional areas.. For Mom in FL they had to call the
FL office and get a local number for her, even though the share was from the
Baltimore office.

I ordered pizza online in Cleveland oh and used my son's address, my credit
card and my cell phone # and they didn't even want to see the card when they
dropped off the pizza.

My oldest daughter wanted a number local to her college in the other East Tn
area code when we switched to verizon (that's part of a cingular hell story)
but two years later her younger sister didn't care and kept her local
number. She doesn't have a problem with an out of state phone # (or address
on her checks) but I'm not sure how much pizza she orders - she's into
healthy junk.

As for the local-ness of the numbers, in our area (covered by Sprint local)
calls to cells are long distance anyway. Don't know how widespread that
practice is.

Ok... so my game plan will be check with the local verizon store in PA and
if that doesn't work, get a TN number (if they can't call PA for one) and
mail her the phone, then change the number.

They should be able to do it for you at your local store, including the out
of region number, just may take a while before the other region gets back to
em with a number to be programmed. Shouldn't matter in your case, but my kid
went to school in Las Vegas (time zone is three hours off from eastern),
went in at 10am eastern to change the number, and had to wait a few hours
for the west coast office to open and get back to them with a number.

On remembering number. Many phones show number at start up as well as a
menu selection.

To follow up... I think I'm going to be in proration hell when the bill
comes out next week.

Because PA is in the Midwest division and TN is not, they said I could not
have a PA number on the plan. I think I shoulda walked out and sent a phone
up from TN.... but he didn't know this until after he charged my credit card
for the phone and had approval for a 6th line. (He said there is some rule
about having more than 5 phones assigned to one person (I have two accounts,
now with 3 phones each) and it needs special approval - I assume that
'special approval' was pulling a new credit report, which isn't normally
done when you add lines to an account.)

He activated it on a cheap PA plan, called EZ move to get a TN number so it
could be moved to my family share plan. When I checked online Sat night, it
was on the FS plan but the line I added in Dec was the primary line. On
Sunday I couldn't view the account details. I called today to find out why I
couldn't see the details online, to move to the new family share plan and to
ask once more for a PA number... and discovered they moved the two old
phones to a new plan and had the new phone on a new plan by itself. <sigh>
(I couldn't bring it up online because the account number changed - now I
have to wait about 24 hours for my new registration to be active.)

In the words of the CSR I spoke to tonight "Your next bill is going to be a
mess. Your billing date is the 20th, I'll be glad to give you a call back on
Tues. to make sure you can follow it." I said yes, please do... I know how
bad it is when you make simple changes midmonth... 'mess' is an
understatement. <g> She also offered to add the promo as a 1 yr contract - I
suspect the moves they made Sunday reduced my 2 yr plan to one. I took 2 yr
so I can get NE2 - plus unless Verizon goes downhill fast, I'll have these
three phones for the next 3 -5 yrs. (I hope this mess doesn't screw NE2 up -
the default phone is due for NE2 in about a year).
