Partition Magic problem on new Compaq Presario R3140US

Hey all,

I just bought a new Compaq Presario R3140US. I installed Partion
Magic 8.0 on it so that i could partition off a 20 gig section of the
60 gig hard drive. However, when i tell the program to do it's thing,
it resets the compuater to take care of what it has to do, but during
the process i get a error #983 "too many errors". It seems no matter
ehat I try, i cannot partition a section of this HD. I have heard
that this is a common problem with trying to use Partiton Magic on
HP/Compaq laptops - but i haven't seen any solutions yet.

I heard one person say there is a small partition on all new compaqs
that hosue some OS files, and that it would prevent other partitions
from being able to be created.....is that the case? If so, what
shoudl I do?

You may not want to spend more money, but there are other
partitioning programs besides PM that would work just as well or
better.

There are computers that won't let you modify the hard drive.
If you could not do it with PM then probably none other will do.
