parts and procedures for a Dual 1218

I am in the process of attempting to turn three semi usable Dual 1218s
into one good one, I have the manuals and have been digging deep into
the enternet for parts, information, advice etc. I am now looking into
a cartridge, years ago I had an audio technica cartridge with a new
1218 that I bought upon discharge from the Navy, I loved the dual and
the cartridge. Today I would like an AT again but know little about
the different models. I am convinced that the AT440 ML is a good one
but I am not sure it isnt too good for my old dual (and records that
arent that great of condition, but might be in the future). I have
been led to believe that the 120 E/T might be better for my needs, and
is cheaper as well. I have an excellent home audio / video system that
should be more then able to handle this TT, can any one advise me on
cartridges?
Also: while my dual service manual gives a lot of good info and
pictures, it doesnt go in to alignment procedures, except for a few
specific problems. I imagine that a complete start to finish (step by
step) alignment procedure is too much to hope for, but does any one
know where I might find more basic adjustments then those listed? I am
sure that the various shops around the country that specialize in
Turntable repair are not real quick to share procedures they have had
to figure out for themselves, but as an electrical mechanical
technician myself I have learned over the years that sometimes the
best way to get a good working alignment procedure (that isnt in the
service manual) is to ask the guys besides myself that are working on
the gear.

Terry.. thank you for the response, this is the kind of info that can
