PCIe54 in a lappy

Does anyone happen to know how many lanes are dedicated to a PCIe54 slot in a lappy? I read that article on the front page about DX10 video cards and thought it would be really cool if they would come out with a PCIe card to adapt a desktop vid card to a lappy. My only concern is that without enough lanes dedicated to the slot it would be bottlenecked.
