ok, so i have plenty of clients but this one is in a different league
entirely. mercedes want to print out 250,000 copies of a picture of mine at
6x4 inches which is massively more than ive ever had produced before. what
do people charge for this level of client and size of job? anyone got a ball
park figure?
cheers

Am a photographer i.e. I would out source it and add 40 to 60% as your profit!

These guys have references. Also sell or point to products that make
such estimates.

I do hope I mis-understood your last post.

It reads as if you have "borrowed" a picture from someone else on the web,
and are going to sell that to Mercedes.

If that is the case then it could get very interesting when either the
Copyright holder or Mercedes find out.

You do realise that every commercial photographer who reads this group will
now be paying great attention to Mercedes advertising literature.

In that case, all I can say is well done.

If you are only selling them the right to use the photo, charge them £1000
that gives you £750 profit. Not bad for next to no effort.

If that £1000 is well below what they had budgeted for, next time round they
will try you before going to anyone else.

If they want you to produce the prints then charge them at cost to get them
done elsewhere + 100 %.

Your source for the image is not going to be too happy about his £50, so if
you pull the deal off, it might be an idea to give him a bonus, in which
case he might still be willing to supply you next time round.

Remember 1 really good deal is worth a lot less than 10 fairly good deals.

yeah, its not the first time ive done it. did it for the civic trust last
year. if the requirement from the client is one photo i just find an amateur
and get him to do it for me for next to nothing. much cheaper than me going
out myself.

yup, it was below what they budgeted for. they are going to try me again in
the future, which is good because its a big p.r agency. most clients come
back, normally they are big companies (lots of blue chip ones) but they dont
have such massive requirements, more like 15,000 of something.

sadly they dont. pity really, i hate to think of the profit i could make
then.

well i happen to run a number of very successful websites - one has over
20,000 members. a lot of these guys post pics and they are happy simply
getting something published and a little money on the side. it means a lot
more to him than it does me. if he doesnt like it and isnt interested in the
future i know dozens of other people who would do it.

no, lol, that is done by an actual company who get paid a nice chunk of
money but we have over 20,000 members and this is one way of paying for a
website thats in the alexa top 10,000 without either banner adverts or
membership fees. how many free to join websites make their members money and
remain free and ad free to join despite 1.6 tb of bandwidth a month :)
cheers
