What I am puzzled by is that if there is no problem with the scanning images then why isn't the monitor available to everyone in the airport for all to see. After all, wouldn't it be better to have 1000 pair of eyes looking over the images instead of just 1 person in the private room.

Some people hit the nail right on the head here.

At some point 'safety' borders on ridiculous. You can not prevent the pilot of the plane from doing something insane if he/she really wants to.

Verify their identity in case it is somebody posing as the pilot. Scan their baggage in case somebody snuck something into it. For gods sake let them be. If you cannot trust the pilot of the aircraft, common sense is being forgotten somewhere.

I hope more people will stand up and refuse to be subjected to these unconstitutional, disrespectful, and illegal Bush era policies. And to think, in November, the ignorant U. S. public is going to vote the people that started all this crap right back into office. Idiots (= republican)...

[citation][nom]WhySoBluePandaBear[/nom]Listen to my ego![/citation]

Your safety is endangered every time you drive your car, ride the bus, and get a haircut among millions of other things. To be so forcefully opinionated towards just one of them is just nuts. Do we need someone to watch us every waking moment to make sure we all "behave like good little girls and boys"? This is what you seem to suggest.

Since full body scanners are perfectly fine with you: how about blood samples, strip searches, polygraph, background check and (insert creative invasive method here)? Once people fool this new system they will keep trying to "one up" security measures without regard to privacy unless we make a fuss. There ARE other systems out there which are far less intrusive yet provide a high rate of detection.

I agree that the constitution is not perfect. However, it does exist and does apply. To ignore our rights as citizens is unlawful.

"window licking idiot" eh? Perhaps you should put more effort into making a valid point instead of childish insults. And for the record: you can protect your privacy without having anything to hide. Blurred though it might be, not all people like to be gawked at (and remember the whole fiasco about them "saving" images?)

Don't bother to respond unless you do so as a decent human being. thanks.

Am I crazy or does a pilot not need to sneak anything through security to hijack a plane? I would rather airport security consisted of nothing more than armed air marshals on the plane. Give the pilots a weapon. Seal the cockpit. You can't stop someone from sneaking things on if they really want to, and we shouldn't be afraid of terrorists anyway. I bet they love seeing what we put our law-abiding citizens through on their account.

An end to the political correctness doctrine would allow for the proper use of profiling. If it makes Arabs feel unwelcome, well, if the shoe fits...
I am quite certain that any competent intelligence agent can readily get destructive materials past any of these scanners, in fact I'd hope our operatives are expected to do so as part of their training. This is all for show, and all about control.

i hope this brings the downfall of the plane industry, its needed a serious overhall for a long time.

options pose nude, or be fondeled... I think i'll stick to my driveing.

I applaud the pilot, the new scanner is more of a peep show and a microwave emitter that will fry your genitals off. Now if want to pat me down it better be for a good reason and she better be good looking.
To me metal detectors are fine, they just need to be updated.

i believe that every one has the right to refuse the scanner, how ever they must be searched in place of such refusal. there are perfectly legitimate reasons for refusal number one priority privacy, number 2 , medical radiation causes cancer if given enough over a prolonged period of time. i will not be surprised if every air port worker, airline pilot, steward/ess ticket agent baggage handler, TSA agent janitor gets cancer within 2 years or at some point in time. that radiation from the scanners adds up over time.

Yes, this kind of stuff does infringe in our rights. I feel like the pilot did the right thing here.
But let's take another step in a different direction:

Why are we even bothering? These new scanners are an absolute waste of money and resources. If a terrorist truly wanted a way to sneak in bombs and cause harm to civilians, there a number of ways to smuggle such things in and deploy them in a very deadly manner that would have little to do with airplanes. This new security policy is totally useless along with being constitutionally threatening; in the end, an inconvenience, no matter how small one may feel it is.

It is remarkably easy to just walk through these and not give a damn; in turn, it's also remarkably easy to be totally ignorant of how much of a detriment these new methods are, both economically and legally. They could be using these resources to improve the quality of your flights... why would someone be content with useless scanners when they could be having better quality flights instead?

WhySoBluePandaBear: What is with your obsession with tiny penises and licking windows, huh? 😉

Yes pilots should go through the same procedures as everyone else.
NO, noone should be forced to do this. First off its kinda creepy knowing they are looking at everyone naked. Second there are NO long term studies to PROVE that prolonged and repeated exposure over time to these machines will NOT cause health complications. namely cancer.
I kind of almost hope they do do damage so I can watch TSA be buried under the litigation that would follow. Of course it makes me sad to think that it would just be the taxpayers who ended up paying.
I don't fly anymore because of this crap, and unfortunately the terrorists don't have to kill another American, they have already won by forever changing our lives. Listen closely and you can hear George Washington and Ben Franklin turning over in their graves. How sad.
And of course people this is how socialists achieve their goals. When they first announced these machines they said so what? its optional, you can opt out if you don't like it. NOW they are in place and if you opt out you are treated to a cavity search, massive delays and insults.
remember Hitlers first speech wasn't kill all the jews either.

I live in Memphis and know what happened....IGNORANCE from TSA! No, he should NOT be screened additionally. He's a pilot......flying a 500MPH missile. Besides a nuclear bomb, what could he take on the plane that would harm anything that he couldn't do with his 500MPH missile. TSA is being staffed by MORONS

[citation][nom]Senor Snarf[/nom]The U.S. is broken in general.[/citation]

Nah, the US is fine. It's the government that's broken and running amok - especially with the idiots who are running Washington currently who want government in every aspect of our lives from cradle to grave.

Animal Farm all over again, this time just more obvious in the "Democratic Free USA" or what do I say "Comrade TSA" .

OOh sorry the KGB "FBI" might not approve of this message and might put us all in Tended camps in "Arizona-Siberia" .

Don't you guy's know the government is always right.

LMAO.

WhySoBluePandaBear:

Perhaps you should learn some reading comprehension skills. I said that if such practices are not challenged the next obvious step is a "one up" when current (scanner) technology is bypassed in another tragic event. This is not paranoia but what has already happened, therfore a logical conclusion.

I understand the image quality is low(for now), however that is not the problem. The problem is that a real person is cycling through such pictures, they can be saved to disks and the device may cause risks to people who passes through them alot (for business, airport personel, pilots..)

On a side note: I thought I said for you to respond like a decent human being.. or is that beyond you? Random insults and ignoring facts will get you nowhere.
