Hello, need help with what is probably second hand knowledge for some of you
seasoned audiophiles.

I have a Kenwood amp (model KVT-729DVD), it has a plug for power input, I lost
the plug so I am going to solder right to the pins that are there but can't figure out what pins are for what. There are three wires and four holes ! 8-(

I'm grateful for any help or advice. Thank you.

Make sure power input is the right voltage -- don't try sticking mains in a low voltage socket --often used where a system relies on one unit to provide DC for the other units.

If you are in the USA you may be looking at two identical flat pin female sockets for powering other units at mains level. This will not be an input.

Try to identify the mains input socket beyond any doubt before powering anything up.

If you have the correct socket the power at the wall in USA will consist of positive, negative (and sometimes earth).
