PIONEER LD-V2200 "disk set" indicator's meaning?

Hello. I am not famialiar with really any kind of electronics, but I
got a PIONEER LD-V2200 laservision/laserdisc player on ebay as a gift
for someone who likes old components. The player was said to be
tested and supposed to be in working condition, but when my friend
hooked it up to a TV and tried the discs I also got, the only thing
that happened was a blue screen, a loudish spinning/grinding noise
(which stopped after a brief moment), and the flashing of a light on
the front that was marked "disc set." We don't know what that light
means, and I was wondering if anyone here might know.

We have a remote for the player, but no manual. Also the eject works
on the player itself, but it doesn't seem to work from the remote.
Because we could not get the discs we tried to play, I am not sure if
the remote actually works were the machine to be responding. Any
insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Some units have a "Lock" for transit protection, maybe on the bottom
there is a release?

The "DISC SET" indicator would mean that the disc is set on the spindle and
should be ready for playback.

As for the remote, as long as it's a Pioneer remote for a LaserDisc player, it
should work with the player. Check the operation of the remote by using it in
front of a CCD video camera. Modern camcorders and digital cameras use CCDs as
the pickup and they are sensitive to infrared light, which is what your remote
will flash from the front of itself when any one of its buttons are pressed.

It may also be possible that the player's advance belt could require
replacement or that the optics may require realignment.

If the player does have serious problems, I would suggest replacing it. The
LD-V2200 is a rather limited player. No PCM audio capability, so you're stuck
with the FM analogue audio tracks, and monaural sound from Dolby Digital discs
since the AC-3 RF signal occupies the right analogue channel. - Reinhart
