Just used tivo-to-go-cha-cha-cha to move a program to
my PC. Brought it into Premiere pro and says the file has
an aspect ratio of 1.0 (rather than 0.9). the pix looks
squashed (even when rendered). Anyone know how to
unsquish this?

Thanks

I haven't tried using Premiere with Tivo files, but the overall aspect ratio
should be 1.33, regardless of how many pixels the Tivo file has (I don't know
if Premiere is asking you for the overall aspect ratio or the pixel aspect
ratio, the pixel aspect ratio will vary based on the quality level you use on
the Tivo, but whatever the pixel aspect ratio is, it should result in the
overall aspect ratio being 1.33 or 4:3).

I record most everything in "High" quality, which has a resolution of 480x480
on my Tivo. Since the picture is not square, but the resolution is, that
means I am not working with square pixels in the source video. Some video
programs don't know what to do when they encounter non-square pixels, but I
imagine Premiere is better than that.

It's possible that TiVo doesn't encode a compliant MPEG stream (with aspect
information), since when they started, it could only play back on their
hardware. It could be that their "approved" system for TTG just "knows"
that all .tivo files are 4:3.
