Recently I tried an install of "Foxy Tunes" a plug in for Fire Fox and
Thunderbird (www.mozilla.org) browser and mail/Usenet/RSS client.
Alas, it did not like my version of Windows Media player and nothing
else I have really plays mp3's well (it's running in the background as I
type) so I visited the foxy tunes home page and looked for a more
compatible player... Wound up at www.corecoded.com and downloaded the
free version of their media player (Core Media Player)
I should note I have ELCARD's moonlight decoder package on board.
Computer is a Pentium II 366Mhz laptop, (Thinkpad 600e) 29x Meg of ram
and windows 98se Video is stored on an external USB HD. (I have a
choice of 1.1 or 2.0 currently using 1.1)
with Power DVD (Which up to now did about the best job) I occasionally
got stuttering audio and other issues.
Just for the "Heck" of it I tried out the Core player
Very impressed, Good clear video (best to date, note, others may do as
well) good audio sync, no problems, So far I've watched one hour and one
half hour show. And it is currently playing an MP3 audio file
This computer is a "Minimum platform" for playing video files, so it's a
good test of a player's use of resources. Video LAN for example, will
not work on this system, Elcard's MPEG player worked but... It was not
pretty (Gave me nothing but grief if I tried to do a "Fast Forward"
Only complaint about the Core is fast forward is a pain... There is no
real fast forward. But with video there is a nice "Slider" you can
slid, response was a bit slow but see the platform above, It does not
use the Event files so it can not auto-jump.
Now, if you pay them 10 bucks you get the full version... The full
version plays DVD's (That's about the only difference) I may invest
cause Power DVD has the same stuttering issues with some DVDs here.
I have yet to test it with streaming from the Replay files (will do that
later) but the options strongly suggest it will work. Buttons are clear
and easy to understand (unlike Power DVD) Works well.. I may just scrap
windows media player as well. Supports WIN AMP plug ins
And according to the configuration menu it recognized the Elcard
Moonlight codecs and loaded them too.
Oh yes, the MP3's it is playing in the background as I type this
