i saw an EA Sports on this weekend, with NHL '97 and NFL '97 @ Target
, they have the one you mention too

Used game stores that even bother with Genny stock sell these titles for
$1 or less. Why would EA think they would sell now? The people who
play these games want this season's players, not a league from 8 years
ago.

Perhaps people who haven't played any versions since then, and are only
familiar with that.
