If the resolution of the monitor is identical to the resolution of your laptop display, you should be able to play at exactly the same settings. All these things you do, connecting to a cooling pad, plugging in USB keyboard and mouse, keeping the laptop plugged in vs running on battery... these are things you should be doing when gaming.
