Plz need help within the hour laptop

hello im in the market for cheap laptop for medium gaming at a budget of 500£ or 800$.

i hav decided to go for the acer aspire 5750g.

i have read reviews and they seem to be good enough for gaming and use in college in 2012.

so i am now stumped as to which configs to choose as both are £499.97.

....hdd is not a concern for me as usually i only install one gae at a time anyway and both have 1gb nvidia gt 540m

so please help me

should i go with i3 or i5 ? is there that much of a gaming increase in performance to sacarafice ram and dvd drive?

please help asap as i need to oreder within the hour before shipping closes...thanks

What do you mean sacrifice dvd drive? They both have a DVDRW.

Not sure why the price is the same if they both have the same graphics, the i5 is by far the better choice even with less ram.

i mean a slower dvd drive and from what i can gather is not good at writing dvds

thanks i think i will go with the i5 as i can always buy more ram if needed as i thought 6 would be a bit much anyway

Hyperthreading isn't really going to help you with hardly anything, especially gaming, so it's not worth the extra 80p.

Besides the i5 is faster than that i7 by 300mhz, which would be a significant boost in gaming or regular apps.

no, hyperthreading really wouldn't help, thats true, but since the 2630QM is a true quad core and has 2 additional physical cores in addition to 4 logical cores, that DOES affect game performance. And while the clock speed is 2.0Ghz on the 2630QM versus 2.3Ghz in the i5 2410, the 2630 offers a 2.8Ggz dual core turbo boost clock which matches the turbo boost clock on the 2410, and 2.6Ghz quad core turbo boost that the dual core obviously cannot match in gaming or regular apps.

yes i suppose it does come down to whether or not 80p is worth the difference. Since it is not really something you can upgrade down the line, I'd probably spring for it. Thats just me. If the 500p budget isn't flexible though, I'm sure you'll still be pleased with the i5 regardless.

I have to admit I thought the i5 was a quad core, it's actually a dual core w/hyperthreading.

However the i5 turbo's to 2.9, which is still faster than the i7 in most applications, including most games.

Your battery will last longer too.

the i5 turbos to 2.9Ghz with single core usage, which is the same as the i7. the i7 is 200Ghz faster with dual core usage turbo, 2.8Ghz vs 2.6Ghz, and the i7 can turbo to 2.6 with a 4 cores being used, of course, the i5 dual has no comparison to that.
Can double check the different Turbo capabilities on same chart as before
