I am lost reading Rico's article. It was good that they attached the source, which I could refer to. Does anybody else have the same issue?

[citation][nom]williehmmm[/nom]Blackmail, pure and simple. You contest it if you're alleged to have downloaded "Iron Man 2", and if your name shows up in local newspapers so what, you know it'll cost the more in lawyers fees than they'll ever get awarded in court. But if they claim you downloaded "Teen Anal Nightmare 2", they are pinning their hopes that you'll not want the world to know what you knock one out to, so you'll pay to settle out of court. That was the strategy of ACS:Law in the UK and they just got their ass handed to them by a mass denial of service attack which caused them to expose the root of their network to the world, including all email correspondence for the last year. That breach of data protection laws will likely bankrupt them and has seen the, ahem, gentlmen porn producers and senior lawyers involved become the target of spam, ID theft, harrasment and a abrupt halt to their dubious quasi legal blackmailing. The irony is that those individuals named in those email exchanges can now sue the porn producerss, the law firms and their own ISP companies for releasing their data in an unprotected format. It's going to be costly. How secure do you think "West Coast Productions" & "Adult Copyright Company" computer systems are? Not secure enough I'd guess, for a dedicated team of robin hood hackers who want to put a stop to this blackmail and copyright witchhunt.[/citation]
+1

That is one of the main problems with the civil legal system. Sue somebody for $1million for doing something embarrassing, then offer then a $5000 settlement. The vast majority of the time people will settle to avoid embarrassment even if they aren't guilty. I guess you could always counter-sue for defamation, but who wants to be tied up in court for months/years just to prove that they're right. It certainly wouldn't be worth the money.

Well this is just silly. What happens when some guy downloads these titles illegally in his house 4 years ago, only to sell his house to another person? Is the 80 year old Asian woman living there now going to get the hammer dropped on her? To Utengineer...I dont really see how they can stop it, say the feds put "locks" on the net...hackers would break through in about 20 seconds..its a no win for anyone but the downloaders...In a ironic world the fed would hire the same people ripping off the MPA, RIAA goof simmons..etc to protect the shiny new internet police programs they would install.

So little time and so much porn. People who intend to pay do so and those that don't find other means or don't even bother. It is not like there is a shortage of it.Queue.

."Phat Azz White Girls 6, She Got Way Mo Ass, and Ghetto Booty."

9,729 “John Does = 9,729 African American men.

Naturally you have to try and single out one group of people and try and turn a somewhat funny story into a racist comment. Doesn't take a psychology degree to figure out where these feeling of inferiority are coming from that you try to express as humor, so why don’t we all have a look at what you’re hiding behind that thimble?

[citation][nom]Smochina[/nom]How the fuck is the 'news' related to toms hardware?[/citation]
1. It's Tom's Guide, not Tom's Hardware (oh, add Tom's Hard-on to my previous list!)
2. You were obviously intrigued by the article since you clicked on it even though there was absolutely no way it could be hardware related.

The porn industry has been suffering tenfold over the past few years on piracy. I think most people think that copying porn isn't pirating anything because they aren't actual shows or mainstream movies. I'm not defending anyone here, just saying :) so no need for red 😛 It is kinda interesting though the mentality behind porn on computers since it is so easy to find it for free the majority of the time. I dunno anyone who ever buys it. It seems like it only ever made sense to buy it if you found a model that you really liked and wanted it right away. Just whipping out a credit card gets you the content very quick rather than searching for a torrent. This is just my take on the whole thing.

Sad thing is that 10 year old kids watch porn these days. When I was that young, we didn't have anywhere even remotely close to this kind of access to this stuff. Even the playboy channel didn't really show during the daytime. Magazines were scarce and heavily guarded by parents.

Dear Porn Industry:

Do you wan to know the REAL reason that (almost) nobody is buying your content?

...It isn't because of bit torrent, heck who actually wastes their HDD space when there's plenty more online?

Nope, it is your own damned fault that nobody is willing to hand over their credit card details. Anyone who has ever visited an adult site (intentionally or not) will have noticed that every site they visit seems to have malicious code ranging from annoying pop-ups to hidden redirects and drive-by downloads. Where do most trojans and spyware get onto windows boxes from? - Adult domains!

Are these the sort of people/businesses you would trust with your credit card details? Hell no!

[citation][nom]gto127[/nom]Porn should be banned it's just another form of prostitution.[/citation]
Alternatively, and more intelligently, prostitution should be legalized.

Teen Anal Nightmare 2

Actually, this lawsuit is their newest technology, ,even better than 3DTV. Once the court case hits, you'll actually FEEL like you were right there in the film.

[citation][nom]hellwig[/nom]Still, would you rather be sued by the MPAA for downloading "Hulk" or by the ACC for downloading "Phat Azz White Girls 6"? I see many sealed settlements in the future.[/citation]

Actually? Phat Azz White Girls 6.

Yes, hulk really WAS that bad.

Someone needs to come up with a law limiting damages to the cost of the product on the open market.

[citation][nom]mavroxur[/nom]I do think it's funny how many innocent people are going to get screwed (no pun intended) because the neighbor's kid was using their wireless connection or something like that. It's really hard to be absolutely sure you have the right person, especially if you're going after IP addresses of downloaders that allegedly downloaded the material years prior to the charges being brought.[/citation]

that's why intel implemented a cpu identifier since pentium3 that reported it's ID back thru the web. it was later made an option to turn it off, but by default it comes turned on. yet another reason to run AMD? haha idk, like finding out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop, the world may never know 😉
