Hello,

I will be travelling overseas where there is no 3G/4G nor wifi (only dial up) so cloud-based is not an option (imaging transferring 4GB on dial up). So what are my options? I have a laptop but it's old and bulky (and heavy). I'm thinking of buying a new portable light laptop but don't want to spend too much (hoping under $300 or $400).

I will have a standard digital camera (not DSLR or fancy stuff like that) and flip video camera (where only way to transfer video is to plug it to a computer, I think). I could buy more SD cards for the digital camera but I really like this flip video (good quality and doesn't shake badly).

I'm looking at $200 Acer C7 chromebook with 320GB HDD and chromeOS. Does it work without internet connection?

Then there is this (http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Foci-PST-251-Picture-Storage/dp/B00378KLFQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360087371&sr=1-7&keywords=photo+storage) but it's expensive (for its value)

So what are my options?

Thanks.

You options are to get a barebones netbook (I'd avoid chrome in your case, as it is dependent on internet access and syncing accounts for cloud storage is still buggy.

Or rely on a high quality cell phone(that still has intermittant access)to send your pics and vids to a email account at home. Most cells accept sd cards.

Id get a Win RT (or 7starter) netbook for $200-250 and a USB harddrive.
