Possibility of Inverter problem?

Hello.

I have Compaq Presario cq61 laptop.
I got a problem with the monitor, which I can't work with the laptop without the power cable plugged in.
When it un-plugged the monitor starts to make noises and suddenly become black,
the pc is still on, but the monitor is off or something.
In the beginning I thought that I should exchange the LCD with a new one,
but then I found out that there is a part called inverter which relates to the power for the LCD or something.

Do you think that exchanging the inverter should fix the problem?

yeah the laptop.
I mean that the the screen works only when the power cord plugging in, otherwise the screen just turns off and becomes black, but the pc still works.
