Possible to make a Audio/mic headphone splitter

I am trying to make a pair of headphones work for my computer and I need to have a mic audio splitter. Instead of buying one ,could I split the cords in the headphone cable and give them separate plugs. I am able to solder well and want to make sure this is possible before I take apart the headphones.

yes if you have the plugs and soldering skills,
they are for sale 3.5mm stereo or mic plugs to open solder and screw back in,
radioshack? ebay?

i have replaced cord and plugs on my PRO head phones few times, after breaking them
