Previous gmail view

I had to re- download my gmail acct on my new iphoneX. I cannot get the old view/ set up when I do. All I can get is the (newest I’m guessing ? ) version. It doesn’t show which are already opened etc. how do I get my old set up back?

Can't really make out what you are seeing and what you should be seeing. Are you saying when you read an email it does not show you that it was read already?
