Problem with AKAI GX-255 Reel to Reel Deck

what causes the play, record, ff and rewind buttons to stop functioning, was playing fine, also the lights for each button quit working. I am thinking that the cause controls the buttons and lights. Any help would suffice. Thanks

when the tape arms are not lifted, it can cause the thing to shut off...
if the belts for the tape arms are broken, it won't turn on...
anyhow, check all the belts, and make sure none have broken.

the unit powers on but the complete control block does not have power, all belts are good, I was playing the deck when after about 30 mins I heard a pop and it wasn't working anymore. Any input is welcome. Thanks
