Problem with Repaly 200O Unit (Frustrating!)

Hi,. I bought a Replay 2000 unit from Ebay and it was working okay for
the most part (except for a wrinkle I was working on) for the last
couple of weeks. (This is my first Replay).

Well a couple of days ago, the power went out while the Replay unit
was one, and when the power came back on, the unit was unable to
detect any signal coming in from my cable box. I have a digital cable
box and it is connected to the Replay with the standard single cable
coming from the box in. The signal in the cable is okay as I tested it
without hooking to the Replay unit. The Replay unit still plays the
shows it had recorded prior to the power going out but it just says
"No signal detected" otherwise. Did some circuitry get messed up? Is
there some type of reset I need to do?

Yes, the "no signal detected" problem is a common replay 2000 series quirk.
One trick that corrects the problem half the time is to unplug the recorder
for a few minutes then reboot. The other method corrects the problem most of
the time, and that is to short the 5 volt power to ground for 10 seconds.
This is accomplished by taking the cover off the unit, disconnecting the
hard drive power connector from the hard drive and shorting the red and
either black wire together for 10 seconds. Chances are when you put the
recorder back together and power it up it will tune normally.

What is the "Standard Signal Cable" is it the RF/Antenna type cable
(Hooks to the Antenna jack on a TV? if not the replay may have
"Defaulted" back to that status. There may be other issues too

Suggestion,, One I used in fact (to good effect)

My "Basement" installation consists of 3 computers (1: Win-XP, 1:Linux,
and 1:Replay TV) a DSL modem and a D-Link router... All plugged into a
UPS. There is also a monitor, Television and TV/VCR combo as well as a
couple of printers and some additional hardware.

We had a power "Flicker" the other day (Power went out for about one
second) the Replay, and the XP box had no problems at all, I'm not sure
if the LInux box reset of if my last act with it was a log-out (It
wanted a log in) I'm still working at setup on it. The replay never
lost a beat. The VCR/TV combo, which is NOT plugged into the ups....

Back to the shop (Blew it's power supply......... again...........)

It, by the way, is a Magnavox, Phillips corp. Not the most trusted name
in electronics where I hang my hat (I've been cussing that company since
1980 when they installed some hardware in my office..... Only one part
in it ever really worked right.... The replacement reset switch.... The
technician who replaced it got his replacement at RADIO SHACK! so that
tells you a lot (the replacement never failed,,, and it got used a lot)

1st step is to hold the Power button down until it resets/reboots itself.
Then try it. If it still does not work, then unplug the unit from the
wall. Leave unplugged for at least 5 minutes or so. Plug it back in and
try again....

Unplug the ethernet cable too. Don't ask me to explain why but it makes
a difference!

Thank you for all the help. I tried both the tips regarding 1)
unplugging for 5 minutes and 2) deleting and resetting the cable
provider info for my input. Don't know which worked but I am back in
business!.
