I repaired a hp dv2500 had no thermal paste on the cpu so i repaired that. I put it all back together no power, so i tried to break it down to a specific problem. If i don't put the top casing the one that the trackpad is imbedded into it will power on. Once i put the top casing back on with all the screws in. If doesn't power up. Nothing is touching the motherboard. So i am wondering if its not grounded right or something. Im out of options. I have narrowed it down to the top casing. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums!

You did well on the thermal paste! Check the ON switch for any interference preventing it from fully closing for startup.

i dont know still no luck covered the bottom with electrical tape so it wouldnt touch motherboard u tighten one of the screws on the left side towards the power botton shuts off. nothing is touching the board. I have never experienced this problem before. Didn't think it would become such a hassle to put a laptop together and have this sort of issue.
