I'm starting out with programming. I want a cheap portable laptop. Should I go with Intel or AMD? I'll be doing MATLAB in a year. Will A6/A8 suffice or should I get an i5?

Right, what you are looking at currently is about $479.99 to $499.99 for an i5 laptop.

I got my i5 laptop for $399.99 on sale.

A6/A8 would be your next best bet.

Here is an A8

But at that cost you would just get an i3 because

Here is an i3 that costs the same as the A8

So if you are still trying to save some money, get an A6.

Get a budget i5. It's a great all rounder and will last longer for you. Plus if you need to ever program using VMWare --> Linux Terminal or such, the i5 would be nice.

I was thinking the same. But budget 15.6in i5s arent really light and portable. And the only <15.6in in my budget are A6/A8s. Thanks. :)
