I currently have a wifi router/modem rented ($10/m0nth) from Comcast. It has 4 ethernet ports AND 2 telephone jacks - I need the phone jack for my home security system. It appears that none of the reviewed modems here would meet all my needs. What recommendations might you have for the best choices to purchase a unit to replace the rented Comcast unit?

Solution
Comcast will have a list of compatible hardware found here. You will have to contact them once you have it and get the MAC address provisioned in the system for their services.

You can handle this another way. I did. I called Comcast, changing bundles to get the best price, asked them what kind of modem I'd need, they told me Arris Telephony modem. I went to Amazon, found it, bought it. When I connected it, I called Comcast to give them the MAC address and that was it. It works perfectly, no rental fees. I have Blast! Internet through them and through their modem and my Linksys router I actually get 130 MBPS download speed, just over 12 MBPS upload.
