question on ohms

i have four 10 inch sony xplodes which run at 4 ohms wired in series but the amp i have is only rated for 2 ohms is this dangerous

not really, in series you have 16ohms presented to the amp. While not dangerous, its also not efficient and a rather poor install based on the limited info supplied.
Wire the same subs in parallel and you would present 1ohm to the amp and now that would be more dangerous.
 
.. or wire them two in series, in parallel with the other two in series, and you will get 4Ohms load on your apm.

Note: It is important (from sound quality point of view) to wire them properly. When wiring in series, connect "plus" wire of one speaker to "minus" wire of the next one. When wiring in parallel, connect "plus" to "plus", "minus" to "minus".
