If you can see them on your U.S. machine, then they can't be turned
off. The only subtitles that can be turned on and off are closed
captioning and LD-G. But only certain Japanese players have the
ability to view LD-G captioning.

No, because it's part of the video. Laserdiscs do not have an Alpha
channel for subs in the way that DVDs do.
