Questions about Microsoft Word on a Macbook Pro

So school is starting soon and I would like to get Microsoft word on my macbook pro, I know it comes preinstalled with apples version of word (pages) but a lot of the instructions we get for school and projects we need to do are specifically layed out for Word, So I have 87gb left on my SSD, I was wondering how many GB is Microsoft word? Also should I purchase word or just try to make Pages and or Google docs work instead?

Word will easily fit on that. It only really takes up about 2gb.
