RAM HELP

[VM]

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 with 256MB ram. I have been given a single 512Mb chip that fits the computer. (I have not powered up the unit yet) Can a single chip be used? Which slot would it go in?

Check your manual to see which is slot 0 and use that slot, the laptop should run off one stick of memory in either slot anyhow. btw why dont you use both sticks?

The slots are numbered A & B and I don't have a manual, looked on line and found one. Slot A but I think 512MB is Max for this unit. Still trying to find that answer. Thanks.

You might try a BIOS update (if available) because 512 may be supported in each slot now. Just a shot in the dark.

Hey Mech. The ODM says mid-April. They completely burned the resellers by saying first week in March back in February.

OK, did you try using both chips together? What does the system do when you do that?
