I have a question regarding the speed my RAM is running at. I have a Ryzen 5 2600x with 16gb of Corsair Vengence @3200mhz. My problem is that the RAM rests at 1600mhz. I don't understand why it is not running at 3200 as it should. I have never attempted overclocking at all and am curious why I would need to adjust the clock speed at all if it should be 3200 out of the box. Can anyone help me understand why it is running slow and direct me to get it up to the speed it should be running at? I have been in the bios for the mobo and set it to 3200 but it continues to run at 1600 according to the iCue software. I really don't know how to adjust it and don't want to screw anything up if I make a mistake! Thanks!

Solution
DDR4 3200 has bus clock speed of 1600Mhz with a transfer rate of 3200. What you are seeing is normal. This also doesn't matter if you are running 1 stick or 8.

If the DDR4 ram had a bus clock of 3200Mhz it would be sold as DDR4 6400(doesn't exist btw) currently the fastest I know of is DDR4 4866 and a 16gb kit costs ~$850.

So you're saying that because I have 2x8 they each run at 1600 which equals 3200? I have never heard that before and have seen other people on YouTube etc. showing 3200 when they run diagnostics on their 2x8 16gb systems. I am by no means a genius when it comes to PC's but your answer is confusing me.

no 1600mhz is really 3200mhz

p.s. you can't get 1600mhz ddr4 ram.

This is the RAM I have, it says it's Corsair 3200mhz DDR4 2x8, 16gb... No I did not pay this astronomical price for it either, when I purchased it was only $129. So what you are telling me that the 3200 is 1600x2 which means each stick runs 1600 two ways? then you say I can't even get what I obviously purchased. You seem to have way to much experience in this forum to be giving me half-truths. Or are you just giving me half-answers and not really helping me at all?

Thanks! Now there is a solid answer I can understand! I appreciate it!
