OK, I just purchased the Razer Kraken 7.1s and I noticed that there was a hissing noise in the background. The Krakens are completely usb and I have tried using all other ports on my pc and I even tried them on a different pc and the hissing noise was still there. If anyone has experience or knows how to fix this problem any of your help would be gratefully appreciated!

I have the Razer Kraken... pro? I think. and I have to plug the green and pink mic thing into my PC, but then I switched them to a different plugin-hole (if that's a proper word... ) And that worked! Now I can record without having background noise.

I seem to be having an issue similar to this, as well. It seems like a lot of the time the audio levels are not consistent with my Kraken 7.1 Chroma (for example, the Skype notification sounds are louder than the actual call), and for the sounds that are quieter, there is that static-y hissing noise that others are describing, although perhaps less audible than some of these instances. However, that makes it no less annoying.
I'm not sure if I should take this back to get a refund/replacement or not, because if this is just a naggy software issue, a la Razer Synapse, then I can probably wait it out.

Gah, I just want straightforward answers, which no one seems to be able to provide!!! D:

The tip to lower the volume to 66 worked like a charm here.

The hissing was only present when something was playing (video, gaming, something like that).
I could even turn the video volume to 0, so the hissing would be noticed with ease.

So, that is what I did. Opened a video, put the volume of the video to 0, hissing was present, opened Synapse and made the headphone volume to 66, boom! Worked. It is weird that with 66 the hissing is not around but with 68 it is there.

Hey guys,

I don't know if this is the same problem that you guys are discussing. I do hear a hissing noise when I turn the volume up (which goes away when I turn it down), but I have another "buzzing" noise issue. This buzzing noise does not go away and it sounds like it's something to do with Surround Sound because I hear it going up and down or in circles (kind of like running a sync for the Surround Sound feature). When I first bought the headset (Kraken Chroma), I thought all digital audio headset do this so I ignored it, but I guess it shouldn't be doing this as it doesn't do it on my work headset (Plantronics 478) and it's getting annoying. The buzzing noise is there as long as it's plugged in and powered, regardless of any audio playing. It does this on both my laptop and my desktop (laptop does not have Razer Synapses, desktop does)

Now I think about it... I seem to notice similar buzzing noise in a lot of noise cancelling headphones/headsets. Is this it? Is there a way to stop it?

I had this hizzing noise and distorted sound on low level volume. Razer Kraken 7.1 here
I fixed the problem.
On a laptop.
How? By uninstalling Razer Synapse!
I noticed that my headset didn't have that noise on a computer without the Razer driver.
Awesome sound now.
Works without third party drivers on Windows 7 and up.

But there is another problem:
Hissing noise activates from volume 72 to 74. (Deactivates from 74 to 72)
I don't know if I hear a "buzzing noise"
But I hear a VEERYY LITTLE noise. Your PC will be louder than that anyway.

I just tried this (along with many other solutions posted here) and I still get the problem with the static at low amplitudes. I wondered if there should be a static noise but the headset cuts it off after a certain volume.

So, did you do anything else?
When you click positions on the windows audio slider in the task-bar do you get any static before or after the sound? - That seems to be my problem.

"When you click positions on the windows audio slider in the task-bar do you get any static before or after the sound? - That seems to be my problem."

That's me!

Algo having problems with Skype and DOTA 2

Ok, I still have the problem but it seems that if you fully disable synapse and turn your volume down a fair bit, the static is less pronounced. The opposite is true when synapse is enabled. And I also get the constant static at high volumes (or I used to).
Also I noticed that setting the colour to spectrum cycling caused an ambient static.

What I think it is, is that Razer have made a product and not tested it but we're the only ones who have noticed. I sent mine back, got a replacement and had the same problem, it wasn't my PC, I tested on 3 different machines with different operating systems, with and without Synapse. Best results were on the PS4 but the static was still there.

I figured it out! Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound. Next, right click on your speaker/headphones and go to Properties. Click on Enhancements, and make sure that Loudness Equalization is NOT CHECKED. This fixed it for mo, hope it helps.

What version of windows are you using? There's no enhancements option for me.

I have the same problem with razer krakekn usb not 7.1 but they are almost the same i just ordered a usb hub from ebay with an ac adapter i will try it and i will see if it wil lfix my issue maybe it will who knows

I have a little more to report on this.

I did eventually swap my kraken for a Kingston Cloud Pro II

It is also a 7.1 USB only this one comes with 2 separate wires, a 3 channel audio jack and a USB that you can plug that into which you plug into your PC. There are 3 levels to this. The USB has a surround sound toggle button on it.

Most static - 7.1 & USB
Medium static - stereo & USB
Low static - stereo direct connection, even then there is some static but it's random and caused by the case not being earthed. Also if you choose this method of connection you will have to buy a splitter to use the mic.

So it's probably an issue with simulated surround sound and USB connections.

It's interesting, I had a £10 stereo headset that never had any static but it was of poor build quality and had a low range of frequencies. So maybe you get interference when the mic and speakers are in one wire, a splitter might reduce that static, I will get one and see if it improves it.

Side note: I also got some static with apple earphones, in the same way as the third option of connection I listed.

I would've thought so too, but I can't help but think this would solve a different problem, one where there'd be a constant static, unless the computer doesn't send a signal when no sound is playing and its the signal to cause the static.

It's quite an expensive bit of kit, relative to the headphones anyway. My question to you is: Did you have this static issue where there was a definite static only when sound was playing (that was more noticeable at low volumes) and did this solve it?

Reporting back, again.
The Audioquest jitterbug doesn't help with surround sound, I feel like I've wasted £40 now ($60). There is no difference in static between this and regularly plugged in when using surround sound, with 2 channels the magnitude of the static is decreased. I noticed the jitterbug only works when plugged directly into the mobo too.
I can recommend the splitter for an audio jack, so you can use both mic and headphones with a singal wire, again, ambient static is vastly reduced, £7 well spent.
