Not sure what category to ask this. This is the one I picked.

I received a photo that was altered. It came from one of two people. Is there anyway to use the information embedded in the file, like the metadata, to determine who it came from? Is there a way to figure out the program that was used, or the IP address of the person? Anything that can help me decipher which one it came from? Obviously, asking is not an option.

In Windows Explorer, right click on the image, select Properties, select the Details tab.
That won't tell you the IP address, but depending on what was done with it, it might tell you the camera make/model, date/time.

But it would be VERY easy to simply not include that stuff in the altered copy.

Yeah it gives me that basic information, but it's of no help. I also forgot to mention the photo came on a USB flash drive. Would there be any information on that?
