Recommendations for NTSC Compatible TV for UK Gamer.

Hi Folks,

I have recently bought a few Japanese consoles, and their output is
NTSC.

My main TV allows me to play the Japanese games, but in back and white
as its a PAL TV and isn't fully compatible with NTSC signals - because
of this I have decided to get a dedicated TV for playing games on.

I thought that most new TV's, even PAL ones, would allow NTSC playback
with no issues, but after trying my consoles on a number of friends
TV's I haven't found one that will work in colour yet!

Can anyone recommend a decent 14" or 21" TV thats available in the UK.
I am on a tight budget, so the cheaper the better

I'm sure you can find a CRT television in the UK that is multimode,
meaning it can display PAL, NTSC, and SECAM all in one unit. I'm sure
it will be high in price, but hobbies cost money. I avoid PAL stuff
altogether just for the simple fact that I don't want the hassle. I'd
love to have a ZX Spectrum, but don't want to have to buy a dedicated
set of monitor for it.

This is interesting. I bought a sony TV 7 years ago in australia (where PAL
is standard) and it was multi-format out of the box. Maybe this is just
something they do for the asian market. I would find it odd to buy a
medium-cost TV in australia these days that didn't do that.

I just had a look at the australian sony website. a $AU700 TV is specced for
PAL, SECAM and two versions of NTSC. The cheaper models don't say if they
are multiformat or not, but I guess not. What I find odd is why the cheaper
ones wouldn't be, as I would imagine the smarts to decode the TV signals is
all on a chip, and costs basically nothing per TV.

Still, the multiformat TV's aren't much more expensive than the single
format ones.
