Question Recording a live stream show like using a dvr

I was wondering if I cut the cord from Direct TV can I somehow record a show that is being streamed at a time in the future to one of my devices. For example, a sporting event is taking place at 3 am on Eurosport and I want to record it. Can it be done like using the controls that cable and direct tv have?

some channels have live streams which can rewind to a certain time or can be found as a video on the channels homepage.

There are online DVR services like

But in my opinion the only real comfortable way is to use a DVR with direct TV

That's all going to depend on what you decide to use when you cut the cord. It can be done in any number of ways, but you'll have to spend some time looking at the available options to the services you intend to use.
