Recording w/multiple airing question

I noticed that one show I have a season pass for airs 3 times in a
week. If I look in the to-do list, Tivo is recording the last one.
Unfortunately, there was some problem (no signal I think it said) and
it didn't record. It seems to me that it should record the first
instance. The only reason I could think it wouldn't is that if I am
already recording 2 things (I have dual tuner model) when the first two
airings occur and it is smart enough to let those record because it can
get this show later. Is Tivo able to do that? Why else would it record
the last airing?

I verified it is doing this every week.

No, Tivo is not able to do a 'best fit' algorithm to get as many recordings
as it can. (i.e. it can't do a "The Daily Show airs at 11pm, 1AM, 10AM, 8PM..
so I can record the 10AM recording instead of the 11pm airing because
you also wanted to record <some other show> that ONLY airs at 11pm".)

Is the "one show" higher in the Season Pass list than the other two shows?
If so, then it SHOULD be recording first. I wouldn't see why not -- unless
you manually recorded something else in the time slot, and Tivo then realized
it could record the other shows in the remaining time.. But that sounds
doubtful based upon your 'every week' comment.

The 2 episodes that aren't recording aren't in the TO-Do|View recording
history either. I looked at next week, and from what I can tell,
nothing higher priority is set to record at the time of the first
airing. The priority of this season pass is high. I guess I could move
it to the top of the list and see what happens.

Try to set up a recording of an earlier showing and see if the TiVo gives
you a reason why it cannot.

If TiVo knows they're out there, it will definitely have each showing in one
list or the other. Is it possible the multiple showings are on different
channels? From what I can tell, TiVo treats General Hospital on ABC and
General Hospital on SOAP as two completely different shows, and a Season
Pass for one won't pick up the other.

I kind of found out what the problem was. Although I told the guide to
display only channels I receive, there are a bunch of national
channels like ABC, FOX, etc that I do not get that appear in the guide.
Also, this particular program was on 2 different channels at the same
time, which I think could have had an affect. I changed the season
pass to record only on the channel I get. I still am a little confused
though because when you search for a show, it lists multiple versions
if they are on different channels (for example Desperate housewives
(ABC), Desperate Housewives (ABCE)) . Regardless of which show you
pick, if you look at the upcoming episodes, it will show the ones from
all channels.

I chose a program ("Desperate Hosuewives") BY TITLE to create a season
pass. When I go in using "view upcoming episodes", it does indeed show
episodes on multiple channels. In this case, NBC and NBCE.

I did also update the channels I receive setting. One annoying thing
is this: when you tune to the channel, it says call Directv extension
XXX about ordering this channel. Well, I have Total Choice Premium (or
whatever it's called) and am supposed to get all channels. When I
call, they said I shouldn't get these channels. I think they need to:

1) Set the channels you receive up correctly (who wants to go through
hundreds of channels manually to figure out which you really get)
2) Change the message---in fact you can't order those channels so why
show that on the screen?

If you adjust "Channels You Receive", it won't schedule a recording on
those channels, and it won't appear in the guide, if you use "Channels You
Receive" for the guide. If you use "favorites" for the guide, the
scheduled recordings still use the "Channels You Receive". Selecting which
channels appear in which guide is completely independent of each other.

When it tries to record from a channel that you don't actually get, even
though it is in the list of Channels You Receive, it won't abort and go
looking for another one. Instead, you will get about a two second
recording of blank screen.

I had that happen with a Giants Baseball _wishlist_ when the Giants were on
ESPN, and I was blanked out, because they were also on my local RSN, where
I was watching the game, while it was recording blank space on ESPN.

Season Passes are only per channel. It sounds like you are talking about a
wishlist, which will work with multiple channels, but you have no way to
control that. What did you do when you "changed the season pass"?
